Things you should be taking with you on your camping holidays

When the decision has been made to take a family holiday camping in France, there are things that need considering. There are many campsites suitable for family holidays in France to choose from; each one as beautiful as the next. However, in order to make your holiday a success, a few things need checking before you leave. These vary slightly depending on if you are using a mobile holiday home, or a camping resort.

Your passport is of course the most important thing to remember when travelling abroad. If you are going on a road trip, also your driving licence and car insurance are a must to have with. It is likely you won’t need them of course, but better safe than sorry.

It is highly recommended to have travel insurance and the E111 to provide basic medical cover. In France, the law also requires that you have a warning triangle in your car (just in case), and you should also have a basic first-aid kit and fire extinguisher.

Most campsites will have everything you need, including barbeques. If you plan on sleeping in a tent, you must verify that you can use your own. Some will only allow touring guests to bring a personal tent, and offer pitch areas at reasonable cost.

Camping in a mobile home will allow you to take much with you from home, including food, as they are equipped with fridges and freezers. However, especially when travelling to the gastronomic France, do branch out from your own fridge, and taste the food around you.

Most importantly, you will want to bring bedding, towels, basic toiletries like toothbrushes and paste, and you should check to see if cooking supplies are provided. Often they are; however you may need to provide bottle and can openers. Regardless of your plans, you should always carry a torch and some matches with you. There are stores near all major campsites for you to purchase perishables or other needs.
